Telfer

The following unedited blog was written in my journal, Tumble Flicker, whilst aboard a Fokker 100; which was flying out from the Telfer gold mine on the morning of Thursday the 14th of July.

It's 9:45am and I'm on a plane heading back to Perth. I've just had the airline staple sandwich and am anticipating the barely bloody that hostess is bringing around, which will go nicely with the single serve Mint Slice. Considering I've been awake since 6am I'm feeling pretty good. I've also done a 90min morning set with the Wesleys and knocked back three Pure Blondes which seemed quite natural despite the early hour. Having a hearty breakfast beforehand certainly primed the motor.

This road trip (air trip?) has been one of the most enjoyable away gigs ever, not to mention one of the more lucrative gambits. First time the Wesgoods have toured. We landed at the Telfer mine site at 8:40am yesterday morning. After sorting ourselves out, Sean Harris (old mate of Streety's) and reason why we came up, took us on a tour of the mine site which was awesome. Great to see the pits and trucks up close. We crashed for a few hours then. At around 3pm we set all the gear up for the night's gig. We need to sort a few sound issues out and it was close to 5:30pm before it was all sorted. A quick beer, a quick feed, a quick shower and we were ready to go.

That we played from 7-10pm and we had a ball. I love playing with Kieran and Shaun and they were in top form. The beer flowed and so did the fun. Sean got up sang a coupla songs and drummed on a tune towards the night's end. Despite the amount of alcohol consumed we were all in bed before midnight in an effort not to feel like warm death at this morning's gig for the night shift workers.

Cracks were showing this morning, but we did well. It's a shame Kieran had a headache the entire time we were here. Neither beer, Herron, Nurofen or water could tame it. Looking forward to seeing the family again...but what fun! It's just gone 10am and so has my Mint Slice and cuppa barely bloody.
