Twin Peaks
I've just finished watching a documentary on Twin Peaks and it's left me a little saddened. For such a groundbreaking and influential TV series to end the way it did, seems like such a waste. I regret that I wasn't one of faithful while it was on TV, but I rented the videos and watched all the episodes over the period of a week as an 18 year old. Bizarrely enough, it was during a stay at a bed and breakfast run by the mother of a schoolmate of mine...
Communication Shutdown
I'm quite excited by a global initiative to raise awareness and money for people living with autism. It's called Communication Shutdown, and it suggests spending a day without social media, namely Twitter and Facebook, to empathise with those who find socialisation difficult.
Geraldton
Last weekend saw a whirlwind trip to Geraldton take place. Hoping to repeat the success of last year, Murphy's Lore were invited back to play at Roz Worthington's Charity Begins at Home Auction Ball. This is a wonderful event, with the money raised going to Geraldton locals who are living with cancer. Being a fan of road trips, I thought I'd bring Rhona along for the ride, and she was going to be quite happy to spend her evening in a hotel room with some wine and chick flicks.
Goin' Back
It would seem that you go through cycles when you listen to music. You get into the odd band, or somehow suddenly just 'get' an artist and have to listen to everything they've ever done. I had a great experience after I read a special edition Mojo magazine about Pink Floyd and other prog rock bands. I delved into a little Rush, a bit of Jethro Tull, a touch of Yes and a little King Crimson...but I devoured Genesis like a hungry prog-starved fool. A fan of their Phil Collins-fronted mainstream hits, I hadn't heard more than two or three songs from the Peter Gabriel era...but I made up for it. It was great spending time listening to the 26-minute Supper's Ready from 1972's Foxtrot album and finally being able to singalong to almost the whole song. If you invest a bit of time into an epic song, you get rewarded, that's for sure. It helps if it's actually good too!
