10Zevon
Say the name Warren Zevon, and for most people, the next thing you think of is the song Werewolves Of London. As great as that song is, it's a real shame that is all he is remembered for, generally. I was guilty of the same thing until a coupla years ago when a bouncer at Rosie's named Des gave me a copy of A Quiet Normal Life. Since then, I've been slowly delving into his back catalogue and I've read his ex-wife's biography about him. I'm something of a major fan now, but I regret not appreciating him during his lifetime...
10Zappa
Now, if Neil Young was prolific, then Frank Zappa was something else. In his thirty year career he released more than sixty albums. There have been albums from the vaults issued on a steady stream since his death from prostate cancer in 1993. Who knows what his output would have been in the last two decades?
10Young
I've grown up with Neil Young. My dad had all his LPs. It wasn't until I was about 23 or so that I really started to get into him. I had my dad make me some compilations and hit the online fan base up for some live bootlegs. By the time he came to Australia in 2003, I was a Neil Young fanatic. Rhona and I met my dad in Melbourne for his show at the Myer Music Bowl...great concert. We were lucky to catch him again at the 2009 BDO in Perth (he was the best thing about that year's woeful lineup).
10XTC
Sometime in 2001, I had surgery to remove a pilonidal sinus, which is just fancy talk for an ingrown hair near my coccyx. During my recovery time I spent a bit of time with Audiogalaxy and downloaded some tunes. I thought of XTC for some reason, and started delving into their back catalogue. I came out of it a big fan of their music. It's such a shame that we haven't heard anything new from them since 2000's Wasp Star (Apple Venus Volume 2). If you've got a taste for sweet pop laced with some acerbic lyrics, look no further!
