Being a parent of children with special needs, I could take this blog down the road of what day-to-day life is like for us. However, I would prefer to offer up a few little moments of excitement that occur in the Bolgie house when we use the word 'special', which I think is its best usage.

"That's a Smith & Wesson, and you've had your six."

My dad used to have a way of filling me with dread as a child. He'd come into my bedroom or the lounge room or wherever I was and announce that he was the Bad News Fairy. This meant that it was bed time. I guess it was just his weird way of sugarcoating the blow. I've never been someone who looks forward to going to bed, except on the odd rare occasion where I'm sick or rundown or summat. In recent years, or decades, I've declared a bit of a war on sleep. I don't like the fact that a third of my life could be spent asleep. Consequentially, I rarely sleep longer than five or six hours a night.

"January/Sick and tired, you've been hanging on me/You make me sad with your eyes/You're telling me lies..." Okay, so that song's about a girl, not the month, but I thought it would be a nice way to start this off. A little scene setting, if you will. Hmmm, I guess the title kinda does that anyway, but I like that song, so...shush!
