I think fear can be both the biggest motivation and the leading cause of procrastination. Stress can be a good thing, in small doses. It's stress that makes us actually do things. If we were all laid-back and easy-going nothing would ever get done. Oh, but it would eventually I guess, when we all got a round tuit. Fear of failure might be one of the biggest fears there is. It can manifest itself early in our lives, usually in a school environment. Apparently the Red Cross Syndrome has stopped some schools and teachers from marking students' work with a red pen. Fear takes many forms, and I am amazed at the list of phobias that exist.

I've always been a fan of urban surroundings. I was born in Perth, but I spent about 12 years of my life in Albany, which is a nice enough town and everything, but I never felt like I belonged there. When I returned to Perth in 1996, I was twenty years old and I felt like I'd come home. I moved in with the Murphy family and they were quite close to the Whitfords train station, so commuting into the city was very easy. It wasn't uncommon for us to spend an afternoon walking around the city. We'd usually go to 78 Records and have a browse, possibly get a hot dog from the little stand in Forrest Chase. Not sure if that's even there anymore.

The hardest part of this week's topic was thinking of a photo to blog about. Because most of us have mobile phones with an in-built camera, I think we take more photos than previous generations did. The cost of buying and developing film limited our parents and grandparents to what they could document as we grew up. Now that we can see the results of our snapping instantly, we don't think anything of taking ten bad photos to end up with one decent pic. How cluttered are our various hard drives with photos that should be deleted, if only we had the time to sift through them all? How many silly photos are taken on our phones, that probably wouldn't have been wasted on a camera with film inside? How soon do we realise this when we go to take an important photo only to be told that we are out of storage space?
